The Alba experience at Newcastle FestivalFinally the 10th of February had arrived, all the rehearsals were behind us so only the competition to do now! Arriving at Newcastle I could feel myself getting nervous - it was my first major competition after all. Before I realized, it was time for the ladies competition and for me to go on. Standing waiting to be announced my heart was racing uncontrollably then that was it I was dancing. The dance was a blur: left hand turn…….the final cord. That was it! I had done it! Now what I thought to myself?? The results... “ and in second place Alba”. Second , wow I couldn’t believe it. One dance done only the mixed and the display to go. The mixed was very like the ladies competition very nerve-wracking and quite a blur! The display was another matter though. Standing watching the first dance, counting bars 1,2,3,4 and off I go. I was trying so hard not to forget all the pointers that I had been given over the four weeks of rehearsals. Dancing the display was such a rush, exciting but inside I was nervously wondering if I could get through the dance without getting lost! I survived the display I was grinning from ear to ear. It was so much fun! Even if I hadn’t enjoyed the competition (I did though!) the dance at night is brilliant fun and you get to meet so many new people it is fantastic! At the dance at night I was asked will you be coming back next year … well I guess so!
